Question: Do I have to bring linen with me?
Answer: No all bed linen is provided including bath towels and hand towels.
Question: Where do I pick up the key when my party arrives?
Answer: Someone will always be there to greet you when you arrive.
Question: Is there a supermarket nearby to buy food?
Answer: The small town of Alyth is about 1.5 miles from the house. There are some small shops there that are open until 10pm. There is a Tesco supermarket in Blairgowrie which is open until 8 pm. Blairgowrie is 5 miles away.
Question: Is there a telephone in the house?
Answer: Yes there is a pay telephone.
Question: Do I have to pay for heating etc?
Answer: No the house has oil central heating and that is included in the price for the week. There is also a log fire and and a pile of logs in the barn.
Question: Are their any pubs or restaurants near the house?
Answer: There are a few pubs in Alyth with is 1.5 miles away. There is also a take-a-way shop there. If you take the car and turn right at the end of the drive there are a couple of fantastic restaurants and pubs at Lintrathen and Glenisla. We have maps in the house so these places are very easy to find. The Glenisla Golf Course is only 800 yards from the front door. You can have a meal or use the bar there too.
Question: Are the golf courses private courses?
Answer: One of the courses Alyth is a private one. They are friendly to visitors though. The other two Golf Courses are public and anyone can go into their bars and restaurants without being signed in.
Question: I would like to do a lot of walking can we walk around the farm?
Answer: The 200 acres of farmland is a working farm and therefore you cannot walk on any of the land that has crops on it. We have grazing land above the farm that you can walk on though. There is an old iron age fort on the top of the hill behind us that you can walk to. Also at the end of the drive and over the road you can walk over the "hill of alyth". There are rough paths and the views are stunning. You can make this into a good 5 mile walk if you want. If you want to do more challenging walks we provide maps and it is very easy to go into Glenisla, Glen Shea, Glen Clova or Glen Prosen. You will probably need to take the car though.
Question: Is there any public transport?
Answer: Not right at the door. If you go into Alyth which is 1.5 miles away you can take the Bus to Blairgowrie, Kirriemuir, Perth or Dundee.
Question: Are their any big cities nearby?
Answer: Yes Dundee is only a 20 minute drive. Perth is about 30 mins. There are also the smaller towns of Alyth, Blairgowrie, Kirriemuir, Forfar and Pitlochry. You can easily drive to Edinburgh (60 miles), Glasgow (75 mile) or Aberdeen (50 miles)
Question: Is the house in a central enough location that we could use it as a base to explore Scotland?
Answer: Yes but it would not really be possible to go to the West Coast unless you were prepared to sit in the car for most of the day. The whole of the East Coast is within easy reach though. We have had guests that have gone as far as Loch Ness with is about a 2 hour drive. However, Pitlochry, Loch Tummel, Loch Rannoch is within fairly easy reach and so is Balmoral, Deeside and Aviemore. Expect to sit in the car for a hour or two to get to those places though.
Question: What other things are there to do in the area?
Answer: There is tons to do. You can visit Castles, go walking, cycling, fishing, hill climbing, river rafting, in fact just about anything you can think of. If you enjoy photography or painting it's an ideal setting too. We have brochures in the house that will show you all the things there are to do.
